2015 Michael J. Johnson Memorial Award

Sgt. Jason Pierce

Jason began his career with the City of San Jose in 1987 working in the Parks and Recreation Department. In 1996, he began his career with the San Jose Police Department. He worked several different units before being promoted in 2009. Jason went to San Jose High School and earned a football scholarship to Utah State. He transferred to Santa Clara University where he also played football.

Jason has competed in the California Police Olympics, the United States Police & Fire Championships, the Arizona Police Olympics, and the World Police & Fire Games. He competed in 5x5 Basketball, 3x3 Basketball, Slow Pitch Softball, and Flag Football. Jason has won numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals in the Open Division of 5x5 and 3x3 Basketball as well as Flag Football.

Jason has done extraordinary work coaching and volunteering in the community. Jason was the Head Varsity Football Coach at San Jose High School from 2006 – 2010 and the Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at San Jose High School in 2008 and 2009.

Jason volunteered hundreds, if not thousands, of hours to the City Wide Hershey’s Track and Field Meet. When the City of San Jose ended its sponsorship of the event, Jason worked hard to obtain the funds needed to continue with the Hershey’s Meet so the kids could still participate. When Judi Baxter retired as the Executive Director of the Hershey’s Track and Field meet, Jason stepped right in and continued the tradition of this great event. Jason continues to go above and beyond when it comes to making sure the youth of our community have something positive in their lives. Jason is the ultimate role model for these kids.

Jason truly exemplifies the kind of person Officer Michael Johnson was. For his outstanding athletic achievements and for his dedication to the youth in the community, Sgt. Jason Pierce is awarded the first Officer Michael J. Johnson Memorial Award.
